BRIDE OF DUTCH SOLDIER

The wedding took place at St. Thomas' Church, Walton-on-the-Hill, Stafford, on Saturday, of Corporal David Van de Velde, Royal Dutch Marechaussee, son of Mr and the late Mrs. C. J. Van de Velde, of Steenbergen, Bergen op Zoom, Holland, and Miss Doreen Mary Lewis, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen J. Lewis, Trentham House, The Crescent. Walton-on the Hill.
There was a large congregation and the Vicar (Rev. C. J. Barry.) officiated-, the service being choral. Mr. Arthur Johnson presided at the organ.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a model gown of dusty pink wool georgette, with wine accessories, and a spray of white carnations, and carried a Prayer Book, the gift of her .mother. She was attended by Miss Barbara Iewis (her sister) and Miss Sheila Wise (cousin). They wore dresses of old rose shaded brocade with Juliet caps of the same material, and nigger accessories. They had sprays of pink carnations, and each wore a string of pearls the gift of the bridegroom.
Corporal J. Kleine, of the same regiment as the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr. G.W. Charlesworth and Mr. G. H. Edwards acted as groomsmen.
On leaving the church the bride was presented with a large silver key of happiness by her small brother, Neville Lewis.
A reception was held by the bride's parents at the Berkswich Village Hall, and some fifty guests were entertained.
The happy couple later left for Blackpool, the bride travelling in a silver grey buffalo coat over her wedding attire. They were the recipients of a large number of wedding presents, which included a lovely canteen of cutlery and case of coffee spoons from the bride's fellow employees.
